Melissa+Garrett=Wedding {sneakpeek}

Posted on May 24, 2010

Melissa is a friend from home, we rode horses together during our teenage years.  Once we competed a the Georgia International Horse Park (where the 2006 Olympics was held) as a team where each rider trades horses and guess who won?  :)  Yep, winning that competition paid for my Ariat dress boots that I still wear these days when I ride.  When we headed off to college, we lost touch as many people so.  Thank goodness for Facebook!  When Melissa was searching for a photog, a mutual friend  informed her I was now a wedding photographer and we reconnected.  I was so honored to be a part of their wedding, Melissa had grown into a confident and beautiful woman.

Here are a few portraits:

I’ve been all over the place this weekend for two beautiful weddings.  Friday night’s wedding was Jessica and Cameron at the beautiful Strawberry Creek Country Club in Kenosha, WI.

Here’s a quick sneakpeek of my favorites from the Bride & Groom Formals.

Like I said earlier, Abby is a friend of a friend from high school who found me on Facebook.  Dosen’t she look just like Leighton Meester?

FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS: Do you shoot what you love?

Posted on May 18, 2010

I loved to compete horses up until a few years ago.  I’m sure I’d still love to compete at some level, I mean, everyone likes to win.  But lately I was considering selling my horse.  My “Dream” horse (who isn’t some backyard pony, she’s excellently bred and could be a 6 figure horse if I train her correctly.) Why would I sell her? Because I didn’t think I could afford the kind of training and care she’d need to become her best.  Then I realized, I bought her to enjoy her.  If I do not have the desire to compete right now, why should I?
So photographers, do you photograph what you love?  Or do you photograph what wins awards and makes money?  I want to pursue photography as a hobby as well as a career.  Of course I need to make money and I really love photographing weddings and portraits for families, but I really enjoy the “hobby” of photography.  I want to create something unique and exciting to me–I mean, that’s what an artist does, right?  Well, the style of photography that excites me is photographing the nature of domesticated dogs, mainly mine and our good friends at Dogwood Dog Park.  I’ll go ahead and admit it: I ADORE MY DOGS.  I really do.  I know it, I own up to it, I’m a little crazy.  I’m really crazy because they aren’t even good dogs.  Actually, they are quite bad.  Cash bites toes.  Tango has gas.
So here it is, my wild little mongrels and their “friends”.

One of my good friends and fellow photographers Shannon used John and I as models in this beautiful wildflower field in Hampton, FL.  :)

It’s definitely a little weird to be back in front of the camera again!
