Post-Wedding Season Blues…

Posted on July 15, 2010

Well… I wouldn’t really call them the blues.  I did go to the beach last weekend, I’m going back to the beach this weekend, and I’m taking off about a month to break my filly Apple.  Life is good no doubt, but I will miss the adventure, romance, and love I see when photographing weddings.  Weddings are a very special time in our lives and I love that people actually choose me to document it.  My next wedding lined up is on Cumberland Island off the coast of Georgia.  Cumberland Island is mainly uninhabited, has wild horses, and you have to got there by the Cumberland Island Ferry.  It’s a seriously cool island.  Another seriously cool island is Saint Simons, also off the coast of Georgia.  My in-laws have a condo there, so we are there a lot.  This weekend we had 5 dogs (Cash, Tango, Nala, Strauss, and Gandolff) and 7 people.  It was a little tight, but we had a great time.  We didn’t do much other than cooking, eating, and laying out.  Oh yeah–there was soccer and the news of the German octopus.  Basically, we didn’t do anything noteworthy–other than eat. So these pictures aren’t of beautiful models or fancy places, but I kinda like them.  ;)  As a photographer I see great and interesting light everywhere and want to capture it.  Typically I’ve got so much to edit, I either don’t take the pictures or I never process and print them–which I hate because these are MY pictures.  These are MY life.   Get ready, I’m sure it won’t all be pretty, but I’m already loving these from this past weekend:

Every time I look at a picture of Cash, I want to tell someone how freaking handsome he is.  I tell him.  I tell John.  Seriously, he’s my doggie soul mate.

And he’s not an easy doggie soul mate to have.  He bites toes, knocks over children, and can hold a grudge for months.  People at the dog park see us coming and walk the other way.

I’m having it printed on a HUGE canvas.  Even the grandparents will get a wall portrait.

This one is pretty stinking cool because it has 2 focal points.

This one wasn’t executed as well as I had hoped, but it’s pretty hard to get 5 dogs to do what you want at the same time.

One more of my man.  He’s scared of the stairs:

Here’s what we ate.  I highly suggest any and all of these recipes.

Lunch:

Chile and Lime Veggie Bowls

Sopa de Lima (I have a print out sheet of the recipe, so if you really want it I can scan and send it.)

Dinner:

Mussels in a Tomato Wine Broth (We had to use shrimp bc the mussels have been poisoned.)

German Potato Salad (The Germans told us it was OK.)

Grilled Local Corn

My cousin had her beautiful baby boy last week.  Luckily they induced her, so I had some warning he was on his way.  I loaded up the boys, headed to Atlanta, and made it there just in time… to get kicked out of the room and wait for 2 hours.  :) Here’s some of Gavin fresh out of the womb:
